Open defecation: RUWATSAN,UNICEF trains traditional pit emptiers in Zamfara
From Ahmed Attahir The Zamfara State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency(RUWATSAN), in partnership with UNICEF has trained traditional pit emptiers and evacuators with aimed to end open defecation in the state. The three day training program held in Gusau,the state capital,was supported by UNICEF for the local government areas to strengthen faecal sludge management services. The training was also aimed at building the capacity of traditional pit emptiers evacuators in the catchment LGAs for an effective faecal sludge management (FSM) services through improved technical skills, occupational safety, business development. The program Collaborates with key stakeholders across the Sanitation Value Chain for a Climate Resilient Safely Managed Sanitation with a goal of improve safe sanitation practices and address challenges linked to pit emptying across the state.
