Zamfara: Quelea birds destroys 250 hectares farmlands in Bakalori.

From Ahmed Attahir  In Zamfara State, Farmers at the Bakalori Irrigation Scheme has cried over ravaging birds,saying over 250 hectares of farmland were destroyed by Quelea birds in the area.  According to the Chairman Bakalori Water Users Association, Malam Yakubu Yahaya,the invasion of birds has threatened food security in the state and country atlarge.  "Farmers had exhausted all available techniques to curtail the situation, but the birds have continued to ravage the farmlands.  "We call on governments at all levels to urgently come to our rescue over the ravaging birds that destroying our farmlands,this is a threat to food security, the birds had so far damaged over 250 hectares of farmland. He lamented that, the ugly incident has become an annual disaster, but the current situation requires immediate attention with emergency response from government to save the remaining hectares. Kebbi Women Organisation takes nutrition awareness to mothers.

From : Ayodele Ajoge, Birnin-Kebbi  The Kebbi State chapter of Progressive Women and Youth Development (PWYD) has taken its nutrition awareness campaign to the Antenatal Care (ANC) Unit of Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, Birnin Kebbi. The aimed was to educate pregnant and nursing mothers on the nutritional value of locally available foods and promoting healthier dietary practices to improve maternal and child health outcomes. The campaign which was organised by the Chief Executive Officer of the organisation, Mrs Hassana Samuel stated that the initiative focused on affordable and nutritious local food options that could support healthy pregnancies and child development. The organisation displayed a variety of local foods, including soya beans, millet, watermelon, sweet potatoes, groundnuts, fish and other nutrition items. APC primaries : Court begins sitting on alleged irregularities in Zamfara

From Ahmed Attahir  A Federal High Court Gusau,has began sitting on All Progressives Congress (APC) on alleged primaries election irregularities case, filled by aggrieved Zamfara North senatorial aspirant Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi in the state.  When the case came up for mentioning on Tuesday, the proceedings could not advance beyond mention due to the absence of INEC and APC as defendants. The Presiding Judge, Justice Hassan Dikko adjourned the case to June 25, 2026, for further mentioning. Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi filled case against Independent National Electoral Commission( INEC), APC, and Sahabi Yau Kaura on alleged irregularities during APC National Assembly primaries in Zamfara north. In a press statement made available to Journalists by the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) of Kebbi State Command, Bashir Usman stated that following intensified security operations aimed at dismantling banditry networks and disrupting the logistics and support structures sustaining criminal activities in the area. Acting on credible intelligence, Mobile Police operatives along the Illo–Lolo Road intercepted three suspects travelling on a Haojue motorcycle from the Soda Forest area towards border communities. Kebbi Gov. extends retirement age for Medical, Veterinary Doctors.

From : Ayodele Ajoge, Birnin-Kebbi  The Executive Governor of Kebbi State Comrade Nasiru Idris has approved the extension of the mandatory retirement age for medical and veterinary doctors in the State Civil Service. Under the new policy, the retirement age for these professionals has been increased from 60 to 65 years, while the length of service has been extended from 35 to 40 years, whichever comes first. The landmark decision was reached during the State Executive Council meeting held on Monday at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi. This was disclosed to journalists by the Honourable Commissioner for Establishment, Pension and Training, Hon. Auwal  Manu Dogondaji. According to him, the Council observed that the previous public service retirement policy, which mandated retirement at age 60, had led to the premature loss of highly skilled specialists, surgeons and consultants who are often at the peak of their clinical experience between the ages of 55 and 65. “By extendin...
