Zamfara Cholera outbreak: Government has taken measures -- Health commissioner.

Following the outbreak of Cholera in  Zamfara State,the commissioner Ministry of Health Dr Aisha Mohammed Anka has disclosed that state government has taken measures, collaborates with relevant stakeholders and development partners to address the outbreak of diseases in the State.

Speaking on Friday evening at Anka Cholera isolation center in Anka town,the Commissioner for Health Dr. A'isha  Anka stated this when she received the State Governor Dauda Lawal who visited isolation camp at Anka to sympathize with the victims of the cholera outbreak in the state.

Dr. A'isha  Anka disclosed that the ministry, some stakeholders and development partners such as Medicines Sans Frontier (MSF) have been up and doing since when the outbreak was reported in the state.

"Since August 16th when the ministry received report on the outbreak of the disease, we swung into action, sleepless and we embarked on rigorous community engagement and enlightenment on the menace of cholera".


She maintained that with maximum support from management team of the ministry of health,there has been  reduction in the daily cases being recorded in the state.

"Primary Health Care workers and Implementing partners such as Medicines Sans Frontiers and Solidarity International were in the forefront in terms of case management of the disease in the state".

Also, speaking the permanent secretary ministry of health pharmacist Aliyu Maikiyo thanked the Governor for his concern with visit to the cholera camp in Anka town and assured that the ministry would remain steadfast in providing it needed support to avert the menace in the state.


Pharmacist Aliyu Maikiyo advised people in the state to always keep their environment clean and avoid use of unhygienic Water in the state.


Meanwhile, Nigerian Tribune gathered from medicines Sans Frontier,MSF that So far 1,386 cases were reported in the area from their available records from 16th August to date.

According to them,the outbreak has reduced drastically so far.
