From : Ayodele Ajoge, Birnin-Kebbi

The Kebbi State Government through its Ministry for Works has expressed that the administration of Comrade Nasiru Idris has spent over N122.62 billion on infrastructural projects across the state in the last three years of assumption of Office.

The Commissioner for Works, Engr. Abdullahi Umar-Faruk, Muslim disclosed this on Thursday in Birnin Kebbi at an inter-ministerial press briefing organised by the state’s Ministry of Information and Culture.

Muslim said the ministry, in line with its mandate, had handled the design, costing, procurement, supervision, and execution of major public infrastructure projects to boost the state’s socio-economic development.

He added that the ministry supervised 92 constituency and inter-ministerial projects under the Department of Architecture and Building between June 2023 and April 2026.

According to him, the projects covered road construction, township road rehabilitation, airport rehabilitation, public buildings, and transport infrastructure.

He listed some of the projects as the rehabilitation of roads within Birnin Kebbi metropolis, reconstruction of township roads in Argungu, Yauri, and Jega, rehabilitation of Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport, and completion of the state’s ultra-modern secretariat complex.

“The administration also reconstructed the 87-kilometre Koko-Mahuta-Dabai Road to improve connectivity between the southern part of the state and the state capital,” he said.

Engr. Muslim said the road project would boost agriculture, ease the movement of goods and services, enhance commercial activities, and strengthen cross-border trade with neighbouring countries.

He added that the rehabilitation of Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport had restored full operations after years of inactivity, enabling the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to select it for the 2024 inaugural Hajj airlift.

The commissioner described the rehabilitation of over 30 kilometres of roads within Birnin Kebbi metropolis as transformative, saying it had improved traffic flow, enhanced urban aesthetics, and modernised the state capital.

He said the completion of the ultra-modern state secretariat complex after 11 years of abandonment had improved administrative efficiency by housing 27 ministries and departments in one location.

The commissioner also said the reconstruction of the state central motor park had provided commuters with modern facilities, including spacious parking areas, waiting lounges, shops, and hospitality services.

He explained that projects were evenly distributed across the state and had positively impacted the live of residents, adding that Gov. Idris remained committed to infrastructure development in line with constitutional provisions on security and welfare.

Engr. Muslim quoted President Bola Tinubu as commending the governor during his February visit to Kebbi for executing impactful and inclusive projects aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
