The Commandant of Zamfara State Anti Thuggery Agency Bello Bakyasuwa warned politicians against engaging youth on political thuggery says the agency remains apolitical in the state.

The agency has recruited and trained 2,500 operatives to assist in the fight against political thuggery, drug abuse and other related criminal offences in the State.

Speaking at the end of the training exercise in Gusau, the State capital the Commandant of the Agency, Bello Bakyasuwa said "no doubt, the activities of the Agency have been succeeding,

"Arms bearing,  political thuggery, drug abuse, armed robbery and other criminal activities have reduced drastically".

He appealed to members of the general public in the State irrespective of political and religious affiliations to continue to cooperate with the Agency, saying the agency remained apolitical.

"I am warning the youths in the State to desist from political thuggery and drug abuse. You should not allow selfish politicians to destroy your future", he warned.

He advised unpatriotic politicians  in the State to avoid engaging the youths into political thuggery and drug related offences to achieve their political interest.

"As we all know, the election is fast approaching, I want to appeal to the people particularly the youths and those in the political circle to maintain laws and orders, especially during the election period"

"I want to state clearly that anybody who chooses to go against the laws of the land will never go unpunished no matter his or her position because the law is not a respecter of anybody"

It could be recalled that the anti thuggery was initially established as a Committee by Executive Order No 2, 2022 by Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle to fight political thuggery, drugѕ abuse and other related criminal offences in the State.

However, the State House of Assembly passed the anti thuggery bill, No 02, 2023 into law, converting the committee into full Agency, hence the chairman of the committee therefore becomes a commandant of the Agency.
