Zamfara state Governors wife Hajiya Huriya Dauda Lawal
has flagged off Cancer awareness/walk campaign with aimed to create awareness on the early detection of the disease in the state.
The fist lady who is worried about alarming situation of Breast cancer,said that all hands must be on deck to change the narrative on deadly demon called Cancer.
During the flagged off ceremony held in Gusau,the Zamfara Governor's wife disclosed that the theme of this year Breast cancer awareness campaign "living beyond breast cancer"in the state.
"This campaign against the cancer infractions and create awareness for early detection is quite appropriate and timely"
"It is worrisome that, records from medical personnel in our dear state indicate alarming situation with the prevalence going higher by the day".
According to her, from 2019 to recent years in every one hundred screened women in the state about ten are either having the BREAST or CERVICAL cancer infection.
"The worrying part , is how such diseases are not detected early enough to allow for treatment easily, but when the affected person is at a danger zone".
"It is against this background I wish to reiterate the call on all hands to be on deck in changing the narrative about this deadly demon called CANCER".
"As a first family we will work through our foundation and Government machinery to create awareness among our people and fight this disease out of this state and Nigeria as a whole".
Is a significant health concern not only in Zamfara but the whole country.
He disclosed that the state ministry of health has embark on Education, enlightenment of people on early detection of Breast cancer in the state.
"We are determined to provide more free screening centers,the state government is also investing in data research on breasts Cancer,in our efforts to address it".
According to him,Breast cancer,Is a public concern that affect all people not only women.
During the occasion, lectures was delivered by medical consultants Dr Bello Arkila and Dr Wanzamai who both emphasized on the need for women to undergo screening for early detection.
They maintained that breast cancer can be treated as early as it was detected,"early detection is not death sentence for patient with Breast cancer,it can be cure".
Dr Arkila called on the state government to establish Breast cancer screening centers with provision of mammography machines and constant awareness across the state.
