Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, on Thursday announced the appointment of the outgoing Head of Service (HOS), Alhaji Safiyanu Garba Bena, as his Special Adviser on Civil Service Matters in Council.

Governor Idris made the announcement during a valedictory session organized to bid farewell to Bena as he retires from the civil service.

The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, emphasized that Bena’s appointment was in recognition of his outstanding and unblemished service to the state.

Dr. Idris praised Bena’s significant contributions to the rejuvenation and transformation of the state’s civil service, stating, “Today is a historic day as we bid farewell to an exceptional leader, a visionary, and a champion of civil service reforms."

Reflecting on Bena's tenure, Dr. Idris remarked, “His journey has been transformative, marked by innovation, dedication, and selflessness. His reforms have modernized the civil service, fostering a culture of efficiency, honesty, and accountability."

The Governor noted that these reforms had improved service delivery, enhanced capacity building, and empowered civil servants to perform more effectively.

He further highlighted that Bena's impact extended beyond policies, as he had embedded a new generation of public servants with values of integrity, professionalism, and dedication.

In his remarks,Bena described the day as epochal in his life, stating, “To every beginning, there is an end. There is a time to go to bed, and there is a time to wake up. There is a time to be born, and there is a time to die.”

He emphasized that the civil service is the engine room of any government, where policies and programs are implemented to improve the lives of citizens.

Bena expressed deep fulfillment in his service to the state and commended Governor Idris for his unwavering support, which allowed him to execute his duties effectively and efficiently.

The outgoing HOS described Dr. Idris as the most worker-friendly Governor the state has ever had, applauding him for settling retired workers' gratuities and ensuring prompt salary payments, making Kebbi State one of the few that does not owe gratuities.

He further extended his appreciation to the civil servants of the state and the media for their support during his tenure as head of civil service in the state.
