Senator Yari begins construction of over 4000 houses for flood victims in Zamfara

The Former Governor of Zamfara State, Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar (Marafan Sokoto) has flagged off phase one for the reconstruction of over 4,000 houses for the victims of flood in Gummi town in the state.

According to the chairman publicity committee A.A Yari political organization Ibrahim Muhammad Birnin Magaji, said Former Governor Yari now Senator Representing Zamfara West Senatorial District, has during his recent visit assured to build houses for the victims of the flood-ravaged community in Gummi town, Gummi Local Government area in the state.

"The first phase of the project  consists the  distribution of 200 Trucks of Cement(180,000 bags), 7,500 bundles of roofing zinc and some cash to the victims of the  flood disaster which befallen them during this year's wet season". He said.

Flagging off the project in Gummi on Wednesday, 25/12/2024, Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar said the victims were categorised into three groups based on the size and number of rooms in their respective households.

Represented by the Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission, NPC Zamfara State office, Hon. Muhammad Muttaka Rini(Makaman Zamfara) who is also the chairman of the project implementation committee said his committee had in the first place assessed the damages caused by the flooding in an attempt to reconstruct the lost houses.

According to him, the committee divided the victims into three groups with the first group having 706 houses that had 11-15 rooms, second group with 7-9 rooms while the third group had 1-6 rooms lost to the disaster, bringing the total number of the affected houses to 4, 038.

Under the first phase of the project, victims were given some cash and cement with which to start the rebuilding process of their lost houses while the second phase will see to the distribution of wood and zinc for roofing.

Hon. Muhammad Muttaka Rini maintained that the Senator has also set up a monitoring sub committee to ensure strict compliance and implementation of the first phase of the project with traditional rulers, security personnel and other critical stakeholders as members.

In his remarks, The Emir of Gummi, Justice Lawal Hassan rtd commended Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar's foresight, commitment and determination towards the reconstruction projects, stressing that the act was truly a very responsive representation of the people.

The Emir assured of his Council resolve to work in unison with the project implementation committee with a view to ensuring total reconstruction of the victims lost houses.

It could be recalled that in September, 2024 serious flood which hit Gummi Town, Headquarters of Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State left scores of people homeless and that prompted the Senator Representing the area, Alh. Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar (Marafan Sokoto) to visit the place where he pledged to personally reconstruct the lost houses.
