Ramadan Welfare: Zamfara first lady flags off food distribution.

The First Lady of Zamfara State, Her Excellency Huriyya Dauda Lawal, has officially flagged off the 2026 Ramadan Food Distribution Programme, marking the third consecutive year of sustained humanitarian support to vulnerable households across the state.

The flag-off ceremony, held in Shinkafi Local Government Area, signaled the commencement of the distribution of 50,000 Ramadan food packages across all 147 wards in Zamfara State. The initiative revealed the administration’s commitment to ensuring that vulnerable families observe the holy month with dignity and comfort.

In a statement issued by the press secretary office of the first lady , Zamfara state Rabi Yusuf said each package contains carefully selected essential food items, including 20kg of rice; 5kg each of beans, sugar, millet and maize; as well as salt, vegetable oil, spaghetti, and wrappers for women. The First Lady noted that the intervention is designed to ease economic hardship and promote inclusive social support during Ramadan.
The statement reads in parts,"To guarantee transparency and accountability, ward-level distribution committees have been inaugurated across the state, working closely with local government authorities and community stakeholders to ensure the items reach intended beneficiaries. The First Lady charged committee members to uphold integrity and fairness, describing leadership as a sacred trust.

"She expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, for his compassionate and people-centered leadership, reaffirming that the administration remains steadfast in prioritizing the welfare of the vulnerable. She also commended the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Zakkat and Endowment Board, development partners, donors and volunteers for their continued collaboration and dedication.
"As Ambassador of the Zakkat and Endowment Board, Her Excellency reiterated her commitment to supporting ongoing Ramadan and Sallah welfare initiatives for orphans and the less privileged across the 19 Emirates of Zamfara State.

"In continuation of the outreach, the First Lady visited several communities across Shinkafi, Bazai, Kaura Namoda and Zurmi Emirates, where she personally distributed additional Ramadan and Sallah support materials to further assist residents. The communities visited include Jangeru, Bazai, Dauran, Nasarawar Godal, Kuryar Madaro, Kyambarawa and Kansuwar Daji, among several others.

"The programme reflects the administration’s broader agenda of social protection and inclusive governance, reinforcing the belief that true leadership is measured by its impact on the most vulnerable members of society.

"The First Lady concluded by praying for peace, stability and prosperity in Zamfara State and Nigeria, and for Allah’s acceptance of the collective efforts during the holy month". The statement concluded.
