Kebbi: Gov. Idris pledges improve workers welfare, safety.

The Nigeria Labour Congress, Kebbi state council, on Friday called on State authorities to scale up efforts in the fight against insecurity and poverty to ensure the safety of workers in the State.
Comrade Murtala Usman, Kebbi state Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, made the call at Haliru Abdu stadium venue of this year May Day / Workers day celebration in Birnin-Kebbi Kebbi.
The state labour chieftain described poverty and insecurity as factors militating against workers’ productivity, saying workers cannot thrive and give their best in an environment of insecurity and poverty.
” We gathered here today to demand security for workers at all levels and decent wages to reduce poverty in the working class. We appreciate the efforts of the federal government and Kebbi state government in their efforts to ensure the safety of workers in the state." He said.
Responding, the governor of Kebbi state outlined his achievements in various sectors, which include the employment of two thousand teachers, renovations, and the construction of new schools across the state
In the health sector, the governor said he has closed the remuneration gap between state and federal health workers to end the exodus of Doctors and nurses to higher health tertiary facilities for effective healthcare services.
He said further that to achieve universal health cover and to ensure affordable and accessible healthcare services, the state government had constructed more than two hundred general hospitals and equipped them with modern health gadgets.
” We are making progress in the fight against insecurity through the provisions of patrol vehicles to security forces and logistics support to stamp out insecurity.”
He maintained that the implementation of minimum wage, prompt payments of pensions and gratuities, and capacity building of workers are efforts targeting poverty reduction among the working class.
Various unions and associations performed parades to signal the marking of May Day / Workers day celebrations in Kebbi state.
